BUDGIE BREEDING.

Although budgies are able to breed all year round, it is very wise NOT to let this happen. The best times of year to allow budgie breeding are throughout the warmer months, starting around the March to April mark and ending this period in August. For all of you beginner budgie breeders, I'll explain the reasons behind this for you

By starting the breeding in March (as I mentioned above) the budgies will be able to get the best of the good, warm weather. This will have a knock on effect with all the different aspects of nurturing, feeding and the avoidance of illness. In the warm, spring and summer months, there will be the natural foods that the hatchlings will need readily available. Whilst still in the nest, the budgie's young really do require this for a healthy start.

The longer daylight hours also mean that they will get lots of feeds from their mother. It's a big relief knowing for sure that they won't be hungry at all. Very importantly, by breeding in the warmer months, this means that the risk of Egg Binding (a nasty disease that can be caught in the cold weather when trying to breed) is greatly reduced.
That’s the main pointers when it comes to breeding your budgies.

Last but not least, when in the wild, budgies live in VERY large colonies. If, when the time comes to start breeding, an isolated pair do not take, then this could well be because they don't feel 'right' being alone. I would recommend adding another pair to their cage (of course, make sure your have big, roomy cages) and then see if that helps. I would bet that nine times out of ten that will do the trick as it will be natural for them, and could result in both pairs taking to nest!
