How can i tell the sex of my budgie ?
Female budgie
When a budgie is aprox 4 weeks old, you can generally tell what sex it is going to be.
If around the nostrils of the budgie, it has 2 white rings, and the budgie also may be very squarky, then this is going to be a hen ( Female )
As the female budgie gets older, by aprox 3 months of age, you will see the change in the budgies cere.
The cere is the area just above the beak. The cere will change to a brownish color, and as the budgie grows older, it will look more browner. When the budgie comes into breeding condition, the cere will go completley brown, a dark brown, and will also look crusty, This just tells you that your budgie is ready for breeding.
Cock budgie!
By the age of aprox 4 weeks, generally you can tell if a budgie is going to be a cock ( male ) as the cere will look a purple colour.
Some ceres on cock budgies are more purple then others, but if your budgie has a purple cere, its going to be a cock.
As the cock budgie grows older, by aprox 3 months of age, you will see the cere changing color.
The cere will become a blue colour, and will become a very deep blue as the budgie gets older.
These are the 2 simple ways of knowing what sex your budgie is going to be, or is!
